TERM 3 WEEK 10 2023
As the school term draws to a close, I would like to wish our community a wonderful break. I do hope you have the opportunity to spend extra time with the children during this period.
Stay happy, healthy and safe and I look forward to seeing all the children back on the first day of term, Monday 9 October. Please note there will be a newsletter sent home on the first day back, as we do not have a school development day at the beginning of Term 4.
GET YOUR REFERENDUM SAUSAGE!
Are you able to help our P & C on Referendum Day on Sat 14 October?
Our P and C is hoping to organise a sausage sizzle and/or a sale of baked goods at the school, on Referendum Day.
Even an hour of your time would be very much appreciated. It's a great opportunity to support our school with funds for replacing outdated iPads and to meet other lovely parents from the school. Many meaningful, long term friendships have started when volunteering.
Having a BBQ sausage and/or baked goods (cookies, cakes etc) is dependent on having enough volunteers, so please let Kaleshni know as soon as possible, if you can assist.
For further information, please refer to the P and C flyer below in the P and C section or otherwise refer to the email that will be sent out tomorrow.
Thank you so much for your consideration.

Term 3 Week 10
Monday 18th September 2023
Dear Parents and Carers
This is the last week of Term 3. Students return to school on Monday, 9th October. There is no School Development Day on this date.
The Bronze Award recipients will be guests at the Principal's Morning Tea, with their parents today. This event commences at 10:30am in the hall. On Wednesday, at recess, Bronze Medallion recipients will have morning tea with the principal.
Lots of fun was had by all at the Book Parade on Thursday. A big thank you to Mrs Fabris and her Library Monitor Minions for their organisation and running of the event. Thank you also to all the students and teachers for dressing up in their favourite book characters and to those parents who helped get the students ready. We also enjoyed a lovely performance by the choir conducted by Mrs Collier and Mrs Green and we finally solved the mystery of the whereabouts of the GREEN SHEEP.

On Friday of Week 1 - 13th October, the school photographers return to take the group photos of all our extra-curricular groups, such as choirs, bands, dance troupes and sporting teams. Class teachers will advise students of their involvement.
I hope the upcoming holidays are full of fun family times for you all. If you are looking for some new books and activities for your children over the holiday break, please don’t forget there is a plethora of books and activities in the READING EGGS and MATHLETICS programs to explore and enjoy.
Have fun and be safe!

Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:

Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Congratulations to:
Molly K (4R), Joshua R (2R), Olivia H (1B), Victor C (KS), Ryan K (5B), Caroline L (3/4), Bella E (5B), Coby K (4R), Felipe L (1B), Rohan N (3S), Liam H (KH), Charlotte C (KS), Samuel A (3/4B), Aaron S (5B), Janelle F (5B), Rohan R (4R), Alastair B (3S), Sharon Y (2E), Namit M (5B), Lia K (2E), Nirvi K (2R)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN LEARNING IN DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CLASSES?
In Term 3 we were thrilled to be putting more science back in the schedule! Students across the school have been enjoying longer science sessions with their classroom teacher, with more time for experimentation, observation and exploration!
Meanwhile, students have been able to focus solely on the Digital Technology science strand during their weekly science lesson with me or Mrs Rolley. We have access to some amazing digital technology resources and software and students have had many exciting hands-on learning opportunities this term!
Kindergarten and Stage 1 students have been exploring how instructions are used to control digital devices but controlling the robot BlueBot. Students have been improving their directional language and creating algorithms to move BlueBot around a maze or a grid. And if they make a mistake in their code? That’s okay! It's time to DEBUG!
Stage 2 students have been practising with visual programming language to create algorithms for the robot Dash. Dash is a cute robot with a big personality and our Year 3s and Year 4s have been leading Dash through some increasingly complex challenges to refine their problem-solving, teamwork and coding skills.
3/4B and 4/5B have been learning all about 3D modelling this term, and students are beginning to bring home some impressive creations printed right here at school on our 3D printers. Students have explored how data inputs become 3D models, which are then converted into a code the 3D printer can understand. They have also explored ways 3D models can be used for a variety of purposes, including in our own scientific investigations!
Stage 3 has been employing their design thinking skills to research fire fighting robots, and create and program a working prototype using Lego Spike Essentials. It has been great to see Year 5 and Year 6 students so engaged in the task of personalising their code and designs. I have seen some impressive “thinking outside the box” from Stage 3!
It’s been a great Term 3 in Digital Technology, and Term 4 will be bringing students new challenges in this exciting area!

Important Notice: Uniform Price Adjustment
From Term 4, we'll be adjusting prices on some uniform items. The new price will be on the school website and uniform shop on the first day of Term 4 (9 October 2023).
This adjustment is necessary due to rising supplier costs over the past five years. The P&C runs the store as a service to the school community and proceeds of the store are returned to the school as P&C donations. We really appreciate your understanding for both the price increase and the benefit to the school of having the uniform shop service.
Thank you for your continued support.
Regards,
Pace Tang
