Celebrating School Support Recognition Week – 4-8 September
This week we are celebrating SASS Recognition week in schools around NSW. SASS stands for School Administrative Support Staff, and this recognition week encourages us to reflect on their important work and their amazing goodwill, which helps our school be so an exceptional school.
- A big thank you to our business manager, Clare Cattell. Clare manages very demanding and important compliance portfolios: Health and Safety, Assets, Technology and Finance. She does an amazing job with each of these. Her resourcefulness and faultless commitment to helping others provides invaluable support and leadership to our school office and its people. We could never thank you enough for all that you do!
- We thank our school administrative manager. Mrs Sharena Ratnarajah. Sharena has a very busy job in our school – as she is responsible for managing SASS operations and is of invaluable assistance with a huge range of finance and administration tasks. She looks after finances that come in and out of the school and there is a mountain of paper work and computer work for every transaction. She works very, very hard at using a range of ever changing finance and administrative systems that are being introduced across NSW. We are extremely grateful for her commitment and humour.
- Of course, the very first people we see in our office when you come to our school are our school administrative officers (SAO's). They are: Mrs Bembrick, Mrs Blieva, Mrs Dechnicz and Mrs Desai. They help so many people and are extremely busy – they answer phones, welcome new people to our school, prepare our newsletter, look after children who are sick or hurt themselves, look after enrolments, look after all the printing and photocopying, check emails, buy equipment for the school, field counter enquiries – and this is just to name a portion of what they do. We are extremely fortunate to have such a friendly, hard working and capable team to help us.
- General assistants: Cecil, Farmer Dave and Mike, keep our school maintained. They come to school very early each morning –keeping everything in our school safe and in working order, fixing equipment and buildings, assisting the departmental contractors that come to our school, setting up our microphones and chairs for assemblies, moving resources and equipment, mowing grass and checking stock. They ensure our school looks attractive and is kept in good working order. We are very appreciative of all our GAs do in our school.
- We thank our school learning support officers (SLSOs) Mrs Aoutal, Mrs Moriarty and Miss Karadanian – our SLSOs work in classrooms helping teachers and students with their learning. They help students complete their work, run special programs such as in reading and maths, help children be safe and happy in our playground and prepare resources and activities. Our support officers are very important people in our school, and we take this opportunity to thank them for all they do for us.
There are so many great things about John Purchase - We are so lucky to have such a magnificent team of support staff at our school – I am so thrilled to be working with each and every one of them, and so thrilled that our students, our teachers and our parents have such wonderful people and committed members of our team, helping us every day.
This week I ask our community to think of the people in our school who support us and spend some time thinking about how they have helped you or your child/ren. You may choose to write a note to them or even say thank you when you see them around the school if you are on site. I know that would mean a lot to them.
FATHERS DAY
I do hope all the JPPS dads, grandfathers and father figures enjoyed a special day with their children yesterday.
Many thanks to Naomi and her team for organising the Fathers Day stall and to Sonal and her team for organising coffee and baked goods for the dads on Thursday. Thank you to our OOSH for also lending the P and C a helping hand on the morning.
Volunteering to assist with these events is very much appreciated. When volunteering, it can be a lot of fun, you meet other fabulous mums and dads and provide a good role model for your children, who see you lending a hand. If you would like to assist in the future, please contact the P and C. Refer to the P & C section below.

We have some spare unwanted classroom furniture. Please refer to the photos below. If you would like any tables or chairs below, please indicate how many you would like in an email to the school email address, johnpurch-p.schgool@det.nsw.edu.au with FURNITURE in the subject line. Dear Parents and Carers
I hope all the fathers enjoyed a happy family day on Father's Day. A special thank you to the parent volunteers who carefully organised the events and got out of bed very early on Thursday morning to set up the 'Coffee and Cake' gathering and the Father's Day stall.
The students were SO excited to shop for their dads.
Congratulations to all the dance troupes and PSSA teams who represented John Purchase Public School this last week. We are very proud of you for following the school's expectations outside of the school by showing great sportsmanship.
Please be reminded, that if your child is returning to school after an injury with strapping, crutches, splints or specific doctor's instructions, please email the details to the office and attention it to Mrs. King (or myself in the next three weeks) and the classroom teacher. Please attach any related medical documents. When the student arrives at school they are to report to the office BEFORE going to class. We then write a risk assessment for your child as they recover safely. You will be contacted directly for your input.
Thank you!

Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:
Respect - Place all rubbish in the bin
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Congratulations to:
Aavin P (1B), Jeneel S (3G), Ethan K (3S), Alastair B (3S), Aaron S (5B), Skylar L (1KR), Sean S (5B), Viraaj R (2R), Eric W (1B), Nathan W (3/4B), Timothy W (3S), Erisa L (1B), Evan Q (1KR), Shanaya B (3G), Adelyn W (3B), Denis W (KN), Yahya M (4M), Jessica C (1KR), Isabella C (6FG), Aiden K (2E), Nina Q (3/4B), Luca C (3/4B), Darcy L (3G), Lara H (KN), Anna H (2R), Mira K (3/4B), Mia Z (3/4B)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.

Year 3 Gardening
The past few months the birds have eaten our seeds and we were upset that they ruined our plants! But not to worry, Year 3 has shown great persistence and dedication in growing plants and we have tried to grow them again.
They have been working hard planting new vegetables and herbs in some garden beds and with spring in the air, hopefully they will grow and look beautiful!
