TERM 3 WEEK 6 2023
INSTRUCTIONAL ROUNDS
We were very excited to host Instructional Rounds at our school last week. Instructional Rounds is a collaborative process where teams of four leaders and teachers from four schools observed four mathematics lessons. This means across the school, we were able to observe 16 classrooms altogether. Our observations were based on our problem of practice, which was:
Are our students engaged in complex problem-solving tasks?
- Is the learning accessible and challenging for all students?
- How are students communicating their mathematical understandings?
We analyse the findings from across the school, and this, together with other data such as NAPLAN and student work samples, informs our teacher and leader professional learning over the next 12 months.
A very affirming part of this process, involves all observers noting what our school can celebrate. I am incredibly proud of what our students and teachers have achieved, and proudly present the celebrations below. I congratulate and thank every John Purchase teacher and student.
Through Instructional Rounds, our teachers have the opportunity to see different teaching strategies in action, share best practices, and reflect on their own teaching methods. This process allows us to continuously grow and develop as educators, ultimately benefiting our students.
KISS AND DROP
It is wonderful to have such positve feedback about Kiss and Drop. Last week a teacher mentioned how poilte and appreciative our parents were and how well behaved, sensible and safe, our students were being.
Thank you - every kind word and safe practice, makes our teachers' jobs much easier and more rewarding. Let's keep up with the safe, responsible and courteous driving behaviours.
EVERY DAY MATTERS - REPEATED
Consistent attendance improves student outcomes, increases career options, and helps students build relationships and confidence.

Term 3 Week 6
Monday 21st August 2023
Dear Parents and Carers
Last week, Guhan R (3S) and Priya V (5B), creditably represented JPPS in the zone final of the Premier's Spelling Bee. Over 30 other schools were participating in the zoom-format Stage 2 and Stage 3 finals. Guhan advanced to Round 8, with only 8 super-spellers remaining. In the Stage 3 section, Priya advanced to Round 7, where only 5 competitors remained! Congratulations to both of our students! Excellent spelling was clearly evident!
Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, will participate in a fun fitness cross country carnival, on the school oval, tomorrow morning. Parents are invited to attend.
Stage 3 will be performing an item at this Thursday afternoon's assembly. Parents are cordially invited to attend at 1:35pm, under the COLA.
The P & C Father's Day Stall, will operate next week, on Thursday, 31st August, in the annexe. If you can spare a bit of time helping at the stall, which operates between 8am-2pm, please call Natalie on 0413 906 333.
The P & C is also hoping to recognise Father's Day with coffee and cakes on offer, before school, on Thursday morning, 31st August. Please get in touch with organisers, if you can lend a hand!
May I take this opportunity to thank Mrs Leonie Cole, who will be relieving in my position, for the remainder of this term, while I am on leave.
Best wishes for the rest of Term 3 and I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4!

Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:
Respect: Follow the rules of the game
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Congratulations to:
Lucy S (2E), Isla W (2E), Eloise S (3S), Charlotte (KS), Evie L (1KR), Abigail G (KN), Lucas (3/4B), Kelly S (3S), Nicholas Z (3/4B), Erick D x2 (3B), Charlene L (2D), Clynton L (5T), Aryan B (3G), Kingston S (KN), Christopher H (2E), Aryan C x3 (3G), Daisy (3/4B)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.

Want to do something life-changing in 2023? Why not volunteer at JOHN PURCHASE PUBLIC SCHOOL as an ethics teacher!
Ethics classes can only be offered as an alternative if we have volunteer teachers. Volunteers can come from our parents, grandparents, friends and local community, from every walk of life. Primary Ethics offers full, free training, lesson scripts and teaching support.
Ethics encourages children to listen closely and to develop their opinions through ethical reasoning. Ethics helps kids develop confidence and empathy. As an ethics teacher, you’ll get a lot out of it too!
