TERM 3 WEEK 5 2023
With our August P and C meeting being held this evening via Zoom (details below in the P & C section), I dedicate much of this week's newsletter information to our hardworking P and C Associaton. A big thank you for all you do for our wonderful students and school!
Formal partnership agreement launched between NSW Department of Education and P&C Federation NSW.
The department and P&C Federation NSW have a long history of working successfully together. That relationship has been strengthened further with the launch of a 10-year Partnership Agreement.
The Partnership Agreement reinforces the importance of parents in their child’s education and is an important part of supporting parents and carers so that students can achieve their potential through public education. The partnership aims to enrich student learning through positive connections, strengthen school communities and support parent/carer participation in their child’s education.
Research shows parental engagement in their child’s education significantly improves student outcomes and that learning is enriched by positive relationships between schools, students, parents, carers and community.
Valuable feedback from hundreds of P&C Association members, school staff and parents and carers helped to draft the partnership agreement.
NSW Department of Education Secretary Murat Dizdar shared his message of support in which he said he looks forward to the department and the P&C Federation NSW working together in partnership and celebrating the successes of our school communities.
“We know student learning is enriched by positive connections between schools, parents, carers and the community, and this formal agreement will build on those relationships for our students,” Mr Dizdar said.
“Parents are the first educators of their children and by supporting them to continue to be involved in their local public school we can maintain these benefits all the way through our students’ life at school.”
P&C Associations offer a valuable voice for parents, carers and school communities in our NSW public schools. There are close to 1800 individual P&C associations in NSW public schools, more than 6,500 elected office-bearers [president, secretary, treasurer] and thousands of P&C members.
Getting involved in school activities can be a rewarding experience. Parents are always welcome to participate in school activities and are invited to join our school’s P&C Association. Please reach out to our P&C President - richardw@jppspandc.org.au if you would like to find out more.
By working together, we can better support our students to achieve their potential.

CELEBRATING OUR JOHN PURCHASE P AND C
What does our P and C do?
Our P&C provides our school with wonderful resources. They bring parents, students and staff together, to assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school.
Our P and C Association includes busy mums and dads just like you. They oversee our school canteen and uniform shop, which provide these essential services to our community.
The P&C also plays a very important role in fundraising and has successfully funded smart boards, learning support programs, air conditioners and more. They have successfully applied for grants in recent years, which has covered the cost of some of our outdoor seating, as well as refurbishig the hall toilets.
Our P and C have organised social and entertainment opportunities for parents and children, such as the Mothers Day breakfast, which sadly could not be held this year, due to not having enough volunteers to organise and assist with the event.
Why volunteer?
Helping out at the school can be rewarding for you and your child, and it is a great way to meet other mums and dads. Even the smallest amount of assistance is always appreciated.
How can I get involved?
If you think you might be interested in helping out with something, just send a quick email to our P & C president, Richard:
richardw@jppspandc.org.au
Coming to P&C meetings is a great way to find out more about the school and the activities of the P&C. You will see other parents, the deputy principal and myself, and will hear updates from position holders and committees.
The meetings are held on the second Monday of each month and are advertised in the newsletter. Sometimes these are held via Zoom, which makes them super convenient.
You can still assist if you are unable to attend meetings.
How can I become more involved with the P&C?
If every parent just volunteered to help with one activity or role, it would make such a big difference. You can put in as much time and effort as you choose. This may vary over the year or from year to year as your personal circumstances change, but this is your decision. If you would like to be involved with the P&C you could consider:
- Joining a committee: e.g. band, canteen or uniform shop.
- Becoming an office holder with the P&C. The John Purchase P and C includes ten official P&C executive positions, including: a president, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary and five additional executive positions
We currently have a secretary, treasurer and two executive positions vacant on the executive team, as well as canteen and uniform shop committee members and a child protection officer.
EVERY DAY MATTERS - REPEATED
Consistent attendance improves student outcomes, increases career options, and helps students build relationships and confidence.

Monday 14th August 2023
Dear Parents and Carers
Congratulations to the public speakers in Stage 2 and Stage 3, who presented their speeches to students, last week. JPPS will be represented by Aditi and Shreya (Stage 2) along with Samuel and Alannah (Stage 3), who advance to the next round of the Hills Public Speaking Competition. Thank you to Miss Brennan, who coordinated the school events.
I commend the initiative of the Student Representative Council and Mrs Barr, who organised a poster competition, so that students are reminded to be respectful and keep the toilets tidy. Congratulations to Joanna, Arian, Salome and Delphine, whose winning entries are published below.
The ICAS competitions commence before school, early on Wednesday morning. Parents are reminded that this activity is only able to operate, due to the goodwill of coordinator, Miss Nelson and other volunteer staff. Thank you!
Good luck to our finalists in the Premier's Spelling Bee, who will participate in zoom Spelling Bee sessions held at school, this Wednesday.
Have an enjoyable week!

Deputy Principal
Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:
Respect: Speak to others in a polite
and positive way
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Congratulations to:
Isabella H (2R), Jaden (6FG), Jane (3G), Arianna J (1B), Hayden S (6DM), Hayley (1KR), Sienna (4M), Rihaan (3S), Jeneel (3G), Alastair (3S), Quinn (3S), Kristy (2R), Rohan (3S), Daniel S (3G), Rose P-B (KN), Satvik (2R), Tiyashaa R (3G), Heidi G (3S), Liori (1KR), Isla (KS), Brielle W (KS), Toby S (2R), Serena (KS), Janelle F (5B), Dominic (KN), Stella (KH), Sienna Z (5T), Isabelle C (6FG), Shreekumaran (3B), Karunya K (1KR), Timothy W (3S), Sachkeerat (3/4B)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.

Want to do something life-changing in 2023? Why not volunteer at JOHN PURCHASE PUBLIC SCHOOL as an ethics teacher!
Ethics classes can only be offered as an alternative if we have volunteer teachers. Volunteers can come from our parents, grandparents, friends and local community, from every walk of life. Primary Ethics offers full, free training, lesson scripts and teaching support.
Ethics encourages children to listen closely and to develop their opinions through ethical reasoning. Ethics helps kids develop confidence and empathy. As an ethics teacher, you’ll get a lot out of it too!
If you have an hour a week and want to ensure children at our school can access this valuable program, go to: https://primaryethics.com.au/volunteer/ethics-teacher/
