TERM 2 WEEK 6 2023
Have a wonderful week.
VOLUNTEERS
There are so many benefits of volunteering to assist as part of the P & C or for P & C events. It's a wonderful opportunity:
- to meet other mums and dads,
- to engage in your child's schooling,
- as child/ren enjoy seeing you during the school day and/or at special events and
- to help make the school a better place for your own and others' children.
As mentioned below, the canteen are looking for volunteers for the canteen and to help out at the athletics carnival (details below), and as I mentioned in previous weeks, we would love to have more P and C positions filled (including: treasurer, secretary, executive member, child protection officer, uniform/canteen convenor, band committee member).
EVERY DAY MATTERS!
Did you know?
95% attendance
Students are expected to have above a 95% school attendance rate, because days missed is years lost. That’s why making sure your child comes to school every single day (unless genuinely sick) is so important.
Holiday time
Please remember, holidays should only be booked during school breaks. Students should be at school every day during school term, right from the first day until the last.
Watch the video below to see why attendance matters!

KEEPING SAFE ONLINE
Did you know these facts about cyberbullying from the E-Safety commission?
- 1 in 5 children will experience cyberbullying
- More females than males report
- The average age is 14 years old
- Reports are coming from increasingly younger children
- Parents are often unaware of what is happening

Term 2 Week 6
Monday 29th May 2023
Dear Parents and Carers
This week, we recognise National Reconciliation Week.
Do you have 1-2 hours that you could spare to assist in the JPPS Canteen? This year, our wonderful canteen volunteers will be running the sausage sizzle at the Athletics Carnival on the 8th June. Canteen volunteers are appreciated every day, as well as on special events days, such as the Athletics Carnival! Please contact Snoewy or Anna at jpps.canteen@gmail.com if you can help.
Our teaching staff are currently preparing Semester 1 student reports. These reports will be available from the JPPS Parent Portal, hosted by Impromation, at the end of this term. I have included information regarding how to establish your access to the JPPS Parent Portal, for the first time, in this newsletter.
I will be presenting an information session to parents, about student reports, on Wednesday, 14th June. Please note the date change.
Have an enjoyable week!
Mrs Adela King
Deputy Principal
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The Week runs from 27 May to 3 June every year. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
Reconciliation is based and measured on five dimensions illustrated in the diagram below:

Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:
Responsibility: Wash your hands
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Congratulations to:
Quinn (3S), Kasey L (3S), Tia (3S), Meira K (4M), Ahaan K (1B), David R x2 (5B), Riley C (2R), Sasha W (3G), Emily P x2 (5T), Kaitlyn M-S (2D), Avyay K (3/4B), Reni (2E), Jaime x2 (3S)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.
Bronze Award
These awards will be presented to recipients at the Principal's Morning Tea, at the end of Term 2. This event will be held in the hall at 10:30am on Tuesday, 27th June. Parents of recipients, are invited to attend.

These awards will be presented at the next assembly. This assembly is planned to occur at 1:35pm on Thursday 15th June, under the COLA. Stage 2 students will be presenting an item at this assembly. All parents are cordially invited to attend.
Congratulations to:

FROM THE CANTEEN
Athletics Carnival
Sausage Sizzle - Just a reminder to parents that sausages for the Athletics Carnival have to be pre-ordered by 5pm Friday 2 June through Flexischools. You can order either beef or vegetarian sausages (pre-order only). No other lunches will be sold on the day. Please ensure you order via Flexischools before 5pm Friday so your child can have their sausage sizzle.
Volunteers – We are also looking for volunteers to help in the canteen at the Athletics Carnival specifically around 11-12.30 when we will be busy getting lunches packed and ready to hand out. Also if anyone is available to man the BBQ for a couple of hours cooking sausages that would be greatly appreciated.
If you can help in any way, please call in to the canteen and see Snoewy or Anna.

TEACHING ETHICS AT JPPS (repeated)
Want to do something life-changing in 2023? Why not volunteer at JOHN PURCHASE PUBLIC SCHOOL as an ethics teacher!
Ethics classes can only be offered as an alternative if we have volunteer teachers. Volunteers can come from our parents, grandparents, friends and local community, from every walk of life. Primary Ethics offers full, free training, lesson scripts and teaching support.
Ethics encourages children to listen closely and to develop their opinions through ethical reasoning. Ethics helps kids develop confidence and empathy. As an ethics teacher, you’ll get a lot out of it too!
If you have an hour a week and want to ensure children at our school can access this valuable program, go to: https://primaryethics.com.au/volunteer/ethics-teacher/
