Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:
Responsibility: Do what is right
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly.
Congratulations to:
Evie L (1KR), Caroline (4R), Liam (3B), Taj L (3S), Heidi G (3S), Indiana R (KH), Evelyn Q (1B), Caroline L (3/4B), Ryan (1P), Liam (KH), Joanna L (6FG), Amelia Q (2R), Tristan (3G), Hanson G (KS), Amelia Y (KH), Kayshav (4R), William C (KH), Olivia W (KH), Darcy LG (3G), Janelle F (5B), James (2R), Clynton L (5T), Gracie M (3S), Rohan N (3S), Timothy W (3S), Priya V (5B), Aarika (5B), Advait G (KH), Guhan R (3S)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.

DEBATING COMPETITIONS
Last week, our Wattle debating team, comprising Yohan, Ellen, Avni, Dhiya, Mahee and Olivia, narrowly lost their debate against Samuel Gilbert Public School. Their topic was, 'That we should give primary school students two chances at any test or assignment'. JPPS argued the negative case, in this instance.
Also, last week, the JPPS Gumnut team: Emaan, Rachel, Jessica and Ellie, debated against the Dural Public School Diamonds. Their topic was 'That we should ban all homework in primary school'. The Gumnut team argued the negative case. Our students worked cooperatively as a team, to prepare their arguments and to create rebuttals. At the end of the debate, the John Purchase team were declared the winners, for their ability to convince the adjudicator of the importance of their arguments. Congratulations!

SOS FOR MORE VOLUNTEERS
We are still looking for more volunteers specifically for some Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays of each month. The hours are 9:30am to 1:15pm once a month and lunch is provided. If you can spare one day a month to help out it would be appreciated as we rely on the help of our volunteers to offer the services we do. Please contact Snoewy or Anna on jpps.canteen@gmail.com if you can help.
Athletics Carnival Thursday 8 June Sausage Sizzle - Each year at the athletics carnival, the canteen relocates down to the Greenway Oval and we run a sausage sizzle where the students can purchase their lunch. Previously only K-2 could pre-order but this year we are opening it up to the whole school to pre-order and this can be done through the FlexiSchools app - no other lunches will be available on this day. We also will sell drinks, chips, lollies, donuts and ice blocks. From Wednesday 24 May until Wednesday 31 May, parents will be able to go into FlexiSchools and pre-order their child's sausage for that day. There will be sausages available to buy on the day, but we would ask that they be pre-ordered where possible.Helpers - We are also asking for any volunteers to help out in the canteen during the day - even if it is only an hour or so it would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to help, please let Anna or Snoewy know.

TEACHING ETHICS AT JPPS
Want to do something life-changing in 2023? Why not volunteer at JOHN PURCHASE PUBLIC SCHOOL as an ethics teacher!
Ethics classes can only be offered as an alternative if we have volunteer teachers. Volunteers can come from our parents, grandparents, friends and local community, from every walk of life. Primary Ethics offers full, free training, lesson scripts and teaching support.
Ethics encourages children to listen closely and to develop their opinions through ethical reasoning. Ethics helps kids develop confidence and empathy. As an ethics teacher, you’ll get a lot out of it too!
If you have an hour a week and want to ensure children at our school can access this valuable program, go to: https://primaryethics.com.au/volunteer/ethics-teacher/
