Term 4 Week 6
Last Thursday the children were treated to a wonderful performance from the band, as the band students demonstrated how to play the different instruments.
Letters were given out to students outlining how to join the band in 2023, and this letter was also emailed out to parents for their consideration.
THANK YOU MRS HERCUS
Today we celebrated School Counsellor Recognition Day! This is a special day to recognise the contribution, collaboration and care that Rachel provides to our school community.
Rachel is a responsive, collaborative, knowledgable and well respected member of the John Purchase team. We are so fortunate to have her as she works tirelessly to support our students, families and school.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR CHILDREN TO LEARN OR BE ABLE TO DO BY THE END OF YEAR 6?
Last Tuesday we welcomed our 2023 kindy students and their parents to our final transition session. One of the questions the mums and dads pondered was, What would you like your children to learn or be able to do by the end of Year 6?
The common themes contained in the responses included:
social skills friendship collaboration teamwork leadership helping others kindness sense of community | confidence resilience respect responsibility happiness optimism empathy positive disposition well adjusted independence | problem solving critical thinking communication study skills negotiation decision making curiosity love of learning self efficacy | academic reading writing mathematics STEM skills sport love of learning self directed |
TALKING MATHS IN 5/6M
Last week when I visited 5/6M, the students were discussing strategies they used to mentally compute the sum below.
How would you solve this? Can you solve it in multiple ways?
Next week I will share what 5/6M came up with.
TRAVEL DURING SCHOOL VACATIONS
This is a reminder that students should attend school until Friday 16 December, which is the last day of the school year for students. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure their children attend every day. Absences due to illness, participation in religious ceremonies or serious or urgent family situations may be justified. Parents are required to provide an explanation for each absence.
We strongly encourage families to travel during scheduled school holidays so that the children do not miss school. Please ask the office for an extended leave form if students are absent from school for travel.
PLANNING FOR 2023 - REPEATED
If your child is leaving the school at the end of this year or returning to school late at the beginning of 2023, please complete the relevant Google Form in the green box below.

Term 4 Week 6
Monday 14th November 2022
Dear Parents and Carers
Kindergarten students enjoyed a special excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm, last week. There was great excitement, as even, boarding the bus, proved to be a novelty for many. Mrs Robbins, Mrs Narayan, Mrs Hooper and their parent helpers, were kept busy throughout the day!
Our concert band, led by Mr Ben Miesch, entertained and informed us wonderfully, at assembly, last week, along with students from Beaumont Hills Public School. Please look out for the fliers detailing further information about band membership in 2023.
The school paused to reflect on Friday 11th November, at a solemn Remembrance Day service, organised by Miss Brennan.
It was a pleasure meeting many parents of our new Kindergarten students, at the final transition session last week. I spoke about our school's expectations and wellbeing matters and how the aspirations we hold for our students, are closely aligned to those of our parents.
This week, I have included a short article about the language parents use. It's enlightening to reflect sometimes, if what we say to our children, is actually consistent with promoting resilience and a growth mindset; two aspirational goals.
The group photographs, professionally taken last month, are now available to order from The School Photographer. Please refer to the ordering process below.
Have an enjoyable week!
Mrs Adela King
Deputy Principal

Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride Badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box outside Mrs King’s office, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride Badges recorded below, will be presented next Monday morning.
Congratulations to:
Darin L (4S), Taeyoon (4S), Samuel L (KN), Aaron (4S), Bella E (4S), Dean Z x2 (5/6M), Angela L (3/4B), Justin (3N), Rae Kit (3N), Isabella H (1P), Viven K (3/4B), David R (4S), Nichola L x2 (2S), Kaitlyn S (1M), Keira G (3/4B), Charlene L (1B), Ekansh G (4S), Katrina (KH), Arthur W (1M), Erum K (3/4B), Maggie L (KN), Spencer L (2S), Ireen S (1B), Shriyaan (1M), Blake H (2M), James (1B)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left on Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Depending on Covid guidelines, Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.

Selective high schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, and by using specialised teaching methods.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2024, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply and the link to the online form are available at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7
Applications open on 18 October 2022 and close on 16 November 2022. You must apply before the closing date.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.

Parents will receive an enrolment package in the first few weeks of November which provides details of the Orientation Day.

SALVATION ARMY GENEROSITY CHALLENGE
We as a school are partnering with The Salvation Army Norwest Region for their Generosity Challenge this Christmas!
It is the time of year where the Salvos are wanting to prepare and support struggling families across our community to celebrate this special time of year – Christmas. Their mission is to help 350 families from Castle Hill, to Dural, to Rouse Hill to the Hawkesbury with food and gifts so they can have a special Christmas period.
Would you be willing to support us in partnering with The Salvation Army Norwest Region this year?
We will set up a Christmas Giving Tree where basic pantry staples and new toys or books can be donated to support this Generosity Challenge. Basic pantry staples include long life milk, breakfast cereal, rice, pasta, pasta sauce, tea, coffee, tinned fish, tinned ham, tinned fruit etc as per the flyer below.
Please drop any donations to the administration office at the school by 2 December, 2022 and thank you in advance for considering to support the Salvos Generosity Challenge – Christmas 2022.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! for the many and ongoing donations sent in for the Salvation Army Generosity Challenge! The Salvation Army representative will be coming to collect your donations at the beginning of December. I'm sure they will be impressed by your generosity!
It's so good to be able to give to people who are in need this Christmas!
