Here we are - the last week of Term 2! Where did the term go? Have a great last week!
Monday 18 July is a school development day so we look forward to welcoming the students back to school on Tuesday 19 July. Since students are not returning until the Tuesday, the first newsletter will be published in the second week of Term 3, on Monday 25 July 2022.
Happy holidays and stay safe, warm and well!
OPPORTUNITY CLASS TEST
The Opportunity Class Placement Test for Year 5 2023, will be conducted on Thursday 28 July 2022.
GET UP! SHOW UP! STAND UP! NAIDOC WEEK 2022
Get up! Show up! Stand up! This is the theme for this year's NAIDOC Week.
Each year in the first week of July, NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across the country to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and histories.
Since NAIDOC Week occurs in the school holiday period, children at our school learn about NAIDOC Week in the weeks leading up to the vacation period.
This week, class 4G learned about the importance of NAIDOC week and collectively made a ‘chain’ display to show that we are all together in NAIDOC week.
Class 2M discussed why we celebrate NAIDOC week. They enjoyed a story called Big Rain Coming, which explored the anticipation and importance of the wet season. This book contains beautiful indigenous art, which inspired their artworks.
Class 6O looked at Aboriginal artworks and created a painting using some of the techniques observed.
Class 3/4B accessed the shareourpride.org.au website to learn about NAIDOC Week, and then created posters to demonstrate their understanding of NAIDOC Week and its importance.

INDUSTRIAL ACTION
The NSW Teachers Federation has directed its membership to take industrial action in the form of a 24-hour strike on Thursday 30 June 2022. As a result of the strike, we will still be open but will be providing minimal student supervision on this date.
The Stage 2 students in attendance will perform at the assembly, as previously advised.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this period of disruption.
WINTER FLU AND COVID-19
As we move into winter, NSW Health and the Department of Education would like to remind all parents, carers and the school community that now is the best time to protect your children against viral illnesses such as the flu and COVID-19 by staying home if unwell and getting vaccinated.
Please keep your children at home if they are unwell
Remember to use a rapid antigen test if your child is experiencing even mild COVID-19 symptomsExternal link and keep them home until they are well and free of any symptoms, even if their result is negative.
If your child's RAT result is positive, it must be reported through the Service NSW websiteExternal link or Service SNW app.External link For information on managing COVID-19 and isolating at home refer to the NSW Government's Testing positive to COVID-19 fact sheetExternal link.
Protecting your family from the flu and COVID-19 this winter
Flu and COVID-19 can be serious illnesses, even in children and teenagers. Both viruses can spread quickly when large numbers of people are in close contact, such as at school.
More people of all ages will be at risk this winter with international borders reopening, increased social mixing and lower exposure to flu over the past two years. Both the flu and COVID-19 are already circulating in the community, so it’s important that you don’t put off vaccination.
Flu vaccines are free for all NSW residents aged 6 months and older in the month of June, as part of the NSW Government's effort to combat this year's expected severe influenza season. We strongly recommend that families take advantage of this opportunity. Vaccinations are available through GPs and pharmacies, and can be safely received at the same time as a COVID-19 vaccination.
The COVID-19 vaccination remains a recommendation for everyone aged 5 years and over, and is also available through GPs and pharmacies.
In particular, NSW Health is urging parents of children aged 6 months to under 5 years to book their child in for a free flu vaccine from their GP as soon as possible. This year there is particular concern for those young children aged two and under, who have never lived through a flu season or gained any immunity to the virus so vaccination against the flu is particularly important for this age group.
Vaccinations are available through GPs for everyone aged six months and over and are also available through pharmacies for everyone aged 10 and over. Those aged 5 and over may be charged a fee to have their child vaccinated for flu. We recommend taking advantage of the NSW Government's free flu vaccine initiative for all NSW residents in the month of June.

SOCIAL MEDIA DAY
This Thursday 30 June is Social Media Day which is marked globally to reinforce being a good digital citizen and keeping safe online.

- 40% of young people want online safety information from their school.
KEEP SAFE ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Being a good digital citizen is a key message for Social Media Day which will be marked globally on 30 June. This includes online behaviours that show you can:
- be empathic and act with compassion and kindness
- be respectful and treat others with dignity and respect
- be inclusive and engage with others thoughtfully
- be thoughtful and pause to think before posting or commenting
- be an upstander and support others if they are being affected by cyberbullying.
In the lead-up to Social Media Day on 30 June, resources are available to help students and their families manage time online, address online safety issues, build responsible and respectful online habits and improve their digital footprint.

SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR - REPEATED
Unfortunately we are still without a School Crossing Supervisor (SCS) at the crossing on Purchase Road before and after school.
Our school may have a staff member at the crossing on most days to promote safety from approximately 8:40am to 9am and from approximately 2:50pm to 3pm.
We therefore ask parents to consider the children's safety and to remind children of the following:
- Cross the road at the designated pedestrian crossing facility
- Stop! Look! Listen! Think! when crossing the road
- Take care whenever you cross
- Don’t run across the road
From the Deputy Principal
Monday 27th June 2022
Dear Parents and Carers
It's our final week of Term 2! Students return to school after the winter vacation on Tuesday 19th July, so the next newsletter will be published on Monday 25th July.
Student reports and grade achievement level distribution statistics, were published on the JPPS Parent Portal last week. Please contact the administration staff, if you are having difficulty accessing the portal. Your child's teacher should be the first point of contact, should you have a query regarding the report contents.
Term 2 Bronze Award recipients will be feted at the Principal's Morning Tea tomorrow. Mrs Cole is looking forward to presenting these awards on our behalf.
This week's assembly is still scheduled to go ahead, as planned, on Thursday, at 1:35pm, under the COLA. Student awards will be presented and Stage 2 students in attendance, will present their dance item.
Wishing all families a safe and restful winter break.
Regards
Mrs Adela King

Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride Badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box outside Mrs King’s office, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher.
I will present the Purchase Pride Badges recorded below, at the first Monday morning assembly after the holidays (25th July):
Congratulations to:
Lucy C (5F), Ellen C (3/4B), Vennela I (4S), Aadi N x2 (4S), Eunjo J (5F), Sasha W (2S), Florence L (5F), Mia B (5F), Jade N (1P), Weldon (3/4B), Ellie W (1P), Aaron G (3N), Charlene L (1B), Ario Y (2Y), Janelle F (4G), Bella E (4S), Schvelle C (4M), Nirvi K (1P), Archer L (3/4B), Priscilla P (1P), Ekansh G (4S), Shreyas K (2S), Alex (3P), Isabella (1P), Caroline L (2E), Anya T (4M), Noor (1B)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left on Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Depending on Covid guidelines, Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.
