TERM 2 WEEK 9
Welcome to Week 9! Have a great week!
WELCOME BACK YEAR 6 CAMPERS!
Last Wednesday morning our Year 6 students left school bright and early. The excitement was palpable as they set off at daybreak. Thank you to our wonderful parents for ensuring the students were ready to go and for supporting the additional COVID measures put in place.
The students had a busy three days, visiting many iconic venues in our national capital.
A big thank you to our accompanying staff members: Mrs Musgrove, Mr Hayman, Miss Brennan, Miss Nelson, Miss Scholz and Miss Karadanian for spending time away from their own families to take care of the students.
TOBY WINS BRONZE!
Toby has represented NSW at the Australian Little A League Baseball Championships. The tournament involved playing seven games, with Toby's team winning six of the games. The team put in their very best effort throughout the games and were placed third.
This is an excellent result for a talented young boy and his entire team.
Congratulations Toby! We are so proud of you!
KEEPING OUR KIDS SAFE
A big thank you to the many parents who are safety conscious and who consistently follow the road rules outside our school.
A staff member has been holding a sign at the back of kiss and drop to remind parents to 'move on' in an effort to facilitate better traffic flow. If the kiss and drop area is full, please drive around the block or around the roundabouts and DO NOT cut in front of other cars pulling out further up the kiss and drop line.
During peak morning periods, I have noticed that the area near Gates 1 and 2 can be congested, while the kiss and drop area further along Purchase Rd is often empty. Parents may consider using the kiss and drop during the morning period.
A reminder to please ensure the children are in the car and have their seatbelts on before driving onto the road.
OUR OFFICE STAFF
We are so fortunate at John Purchase to have a lovely administrative team, working hard every day to support our students, staff and parents.
Mrs Clare Cattell - Business Manager (Mon -Fri)
Mrs Sharena Ratnarajah - School Administrative Manager (Mon - Fri)
Mrs Helen Dechnicz - School Administrative Officer (Mon - Fri)
Mrs Priya Desai - School Administrative Officer (Tues, Thurs, Fri)
Mrs Svetlana Blieva - School Administrative Officer (Mon - Thurs)
Mrs Margaret Bembrick - School Administrative Officer (Mon - Fri)
SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR - REPEATED
Unfortunately we are still without a School Crossing Supervisor (SCS) at the crossing on Purchase Road before and after school.
Our school may have a staff member at the crossing on most days to promote safety from approximately 8:40am to 9am and from approximately 2:50pm to 3pm.
We therefore ask parents to consider the children's safety and to remind children of the following:
- Cross the road at the designated pedestrian crossing facility
- Stop! Look! Listen! Think! when crossing the road
- Take care whenever you cross
- Don’t run across the road

Dear Parents and Carers
It's Week 9!
At school, we try to teach students to recognise and verbalise their feelings. We focus on restorative rather than punitive practices and try to develop each individual's emotional intelligence. Teaching our students to be kind to themselves and to others, are some of life's most important lessons. The latest Insights article, about kindness, is shared below.
How lovely it was to enjoy fine, (though brisk) sunny days at our recent athletics carnivals. Congratulations to all the participants and Miss Nelson and her team, for coordinating the days' events.
Year 6 students travelled to Canberra last week, complete with a jam-packed itinerary, that included visits to Parliament House, Mint, CSIRO, War Memorial, Mount Ainslie, Questacon and the Institute of Sport. Huge thanks to Mrs Musgrove, who coordinated the myriad of organisational details and led her team of teachers. Thank you Mrs Musgrove, Miss Brennan, Mr Hayman, Miss Nelson, Miss Scholz and Miss Karadanian, for leaving your own families, so that our students could enjoy this special experience.
Semester 1 student reports will be available from the Parent Portal, from this Thursday 23rd June. Details for registering on the JPPS Parent Portal are repeated below.
The Principal's Morning Tea for Bronze Award recipients will be held in the hall, next Tuesday 28th June. Parents are invited to attend this celebration. Invitations are being sent home this week. The Bronze Medallion Morning Tea will be held for students, on Wednesday 29th June.
The final K-6 assembly for Term 2, will be held at 1:35pm under the COLA, next Thursday 30th June. Stage 2 students will be presenting an item at this assembly.

Our School Expectations
These are our expectations, when visiting the school's front office. Our administration team consists of:
Mrs Cattell (Business Manager), Mrs Ratnarajah (School Administrative Manager or SAM), Mrs Dechnicz (School Administrative Officer or SAO), Mrs Desai (SAO), Mrs Blieva (SAO) and Mrs Bembrick (SAO).
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride Badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box outside Mrs King’s office, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher.
I will present the Purchase Pride Badges recorded below, at the morning assembly on Monday 27th June.
Congratulations to:
Viven K (3/4B), Jordan Z (2E), Jatin (3/4B), Rachel B (3/4B), Olivia X (1B), Elizabeth B x3 (4S), Sriyansh D (4M), Liam C (KH), Liam (2E), Nina Q (2E), Adam L (3N), Teresa (2E), Jia K x2 (4S), Adele N (2C), Pratyush (4G), Caroline F (1M), Vennela (4S), David R (4S), Angela (4S), Amelie J (1B), Yohan x2 (4S), Ekansh G (4S), Amelia (4L), Emily S (4S), James K (1B), Venela I (4S), Darian (1P), Ireen S (1B), Bella E (4S), Arya G (4G), Lena K (4S), Pashaan S (3G)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left on Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Depending on Covid guidelines, Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL NEWS
On Wednesday 8th June and Thursday 9th June JPPS held the Primary Track and Field Events, Athletics Carnival. It was great to see so many students participating in all the events.
It was a very successful day with a record being broken.
Congratulations to Isabella E from 4S who broke the Junior girls Discus record. The previous record was 14.49m and was made in 2017. Isabella broke the record with a fantastic throw of 14.5m. Ribbons will be presented on Monday 27th June morning assembly.
GARDEN CLUB 2022
The JPPS Garden Club would like to thank Rachael and the Bunnings Dural team for their generous donation of soil and potting mix. Seeing students' excitement as we prepare their garden beds for planting is wonderful.
Thank you Bunnings for your ongoing support for John Purchase Public School!
We would also like to thank all students who add to our compost bins and help feed our worms.
Our gardens will be very happy with all the beautiful soil!
