TERM 2 WEEK 6
Welcome to Week 6!
Thank you to Mrs King for filling in during my leave last week.
I hope you have a great week 6!
BE ON TIME FOR THE SCHOOL DAY EVERY DAY
School begins at 8.55am and all students are expected to arrive by that time each day. This is important as we do not want students missing out on explanations at the beginning of the day.
Please ensure your child presents at the school office if they arrive late and pleases provide an explanation for any late arrival.
P & C BBQ - REPEATED FROM LAST WEEK
Our P & C will be holding a BBQ for JPPS families after school this Friday 3 June. This is a P & C event, rather than a school organised event, so please note that parents and carers are responsible for supervising their own child/ren.
I hope many families are able to come along to enjoy the hospitality of our P and C Association.
A big thank you to the organisers and those helping out on the day.
SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR - REPEATED
Unfortunately we are still without a School Crossing Supervisor (SCS) at the crossing on Purchase Road before and after school.
Our school may have a staff member at the crossing on most days to promote safety from approximately 8.40am to 9am and from approximately 2.50pm to 3pm.
We therefore ask parents to consider the children's safety and to remind children of the following:
- Cross the road at the designated pedestrian crossing facility
- Stop! Look! Listen! Think! when crossing the road
- Take care whenever you cross
- Don’t run across the road
Until next week, keep safe, happy and well!

Dear Parents and Carers
At 9:10am this Wednesday morning, I will be holding a parent session to focus specifically on student reports. Kindergarten parents and new parents are especially welcome. You are invited to register your interest in attending, via the green and yellow flyer below.
Do you know what online activities, including social media, your children are engaged in after school? Online safety education is based on recognising, acknowledging, and understanding rights and responsibilities of our students in the digital age. We value parents as partners, to support safe practices online at home and at school.
Last week, police youth liaison officers visited the school to remind students about safe online practices. It is concerning to learn that there are some students using applications, such as Tik Tok and Discord, which have a minimum user age of 13. Constable Mare reminded the audience, that age limitations are there for a reason.
If you need support in helping your child to develop greater awareness of online safety and correct practices, I commend, once again, the parent resources published by the Australian Government's eSafety Commissioner. A range of videos, books, information sheets, audio files, family technology agreements and other activities, can be found here:
https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/resources
Modelling and instilling safe and respectful practices online, is everyone's responsibility.
Regards
Mrs Adela King
Deputy Principal
Mrs King and 3/4B Part 1
It has been an absolute joy, to spend time teaching students in 3/4B this term, unpacking elements of Instructional Coaching's 'Impact Cycle', through the English syllabus. We have been thinking imaginatively, creatively and interpretively about ideas in texts and to reflect on our own and others’ learning.
The textual concept of PERSPECTIVE has been a focus, so to place this concept in the context of 3/4B and Stage 2, it is examined in this sequence:
Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten)
Students understand that opinions can be articulated in and through texts. They learn that opinions, preferences for and ideas about texts and authors may differ.
Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
Students understand that personal experience and interest shape their opinions and choices. They learn that opinions can be shared, developed and questioned.
Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4)
Students recognise that their understanding of the worlds in texts are shaped by their own personal experience and their own culture. They learn that views of the world in texts may differ from each other, are based on selections and may be represented in various ways, in different modes and media.
In 3/4B, our first lesson together, focused on recognising how an argument can persuade. We used Roald Dahl's poetry, identifying the multitude of persuasive tools he cleverly used, such as emotive language, to achieve our success criteria. These are shared with you, below.
3/4B Part 2
Our next lesson was devoted to using multimodal texts to stimulate the students' thinking. Examples of 'texts' included images, commercial posters, television advertisements and YouTube clips. Every student was able to think deeply about recognising the importance of identifying the author's purpose. I have included some examples of the exit passes produced.
3/4B Part 3 - Reflection
Allowing time to reflect on learning, (critically evaluate, provide feedback to others and ask questions), is key to promoting student agency. At JPPS, we proudly promote the importance of metacognition; put simply, thinking about our own thinking.
The students went on a 'gallery walk'; reading the opinions of others, asking clarifying questions and providing ideas to feed learning forward. The short film below, entitled 'I Used To Think But Now I Think', is a small snapshot of the depth of thought evoked.
Thank you 3/4B and Mrs Button, for providing this deputy principal with an opportunity to reflect on my own teaching practice, once more! I was excited to be a small part of your learning journey this term!
If we create a culture where every teacher believes they need to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better, there is no limit to what we can achieve.
Dylan Wiliam
Our School Expectations
We remind our students to use the toilets safely, respectfully and responsibly.
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride Badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box outside Mrs King’s office, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher.
I will present the Purchase Pride Badges recorded below, at the morning assembly on Monday 6th June.
Congratulations to:
Andy H (5S), Carine W (4S), Miya J (2S), Spencer L (2S), Kian K (4S), Bella E (4S), Pippa B (4M), Siddharth (1B), Sydney L (3/4B), Audrey L (5F), Shrishved K (3/4B)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left on Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Depending on Covid guidelines, Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.
