All assessments are completed online, with the exception of Year 3 writing. The anticipated schedule for this week is outlined below.
- Monday - Year 5 Reading
- Tuesday - Year 3 Numeracy
- Wednesday - Year 5 Language Conventions
- Thursday - Year 5 Numeracy

A LOOK IN 5/6M
Last Friday 5/6M were learning to make meaning from visuals.
The success criteria used included:
- I can use my existing knowledge to make inferences
- I can use images to tell a narrative
- I can justify my ideas with textual evidence
OFFICE RENOVATIONS
Renovations to the administration building began this morning, which will allow for an additional two staff toilets. There may be times when the front office is temporarily relocated to the hall or annexe, and there will be signage to direct visitors if this occurs.
COVID REMINDER
- If a student is unwell and has any COVID-19 symptoms, they should always test for COVID-19.
- If the test comes back negative for COVID-19, the student should still not return to school until either:
- The student no longer has any symptoms, or
- A medical certificate is provided to the school confirming that symptoms are explained by another diagnosis (such as hay fever)
- It is important that students do not attend school if they are unwell, even if they have tested negative for COVID-19. Rapid antigen tests can produce false negative results and symptoms of other illnesses can also be similar to COVID-19, including flu, the common cold and stomach bugs. Health advice is that students who are sick should always stay home to rest and recover and avoid putting other students and staff at risk of getting sick.
THE MIGHTY WRITE COMPETITION 2022
Congratulations Lexie for her entry into this international writing competition. We are so proud of Lexie, as her entry was selected by the judges as one of three runners up. They thought her story, If I ruled the World for a Day, the Tables Would Turn was creative, exciting and brilliantly written. Lexie won a t-shirt and some pencils. Well done and congratulations!
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC)
Please note this slight change to the WWCC forms for parents volunteering at school.
Volunteers who are parents of students, are classified as exempt workers and this new form is to be completed: WWCC Declaration for Volunteers and Non-Child Related Contractors.
This form must be completed by parents when they volunteer for the school or for the P & C.
The declaration form that the P & C have been completing for volunteers (ie the WWCC Declaration for Contractors with Workers in Child-Related Roles (formerly called Working With Children Check Declaration for Contractors Hiring Sub-Contractors in Child-Related Roles) is to be filled out by the P&C for any volunteers engaged through the P&C who are not parents of students. However this is no longer required by the DoE for parents volunteering to help out with most of the events (except those that involve overnight stays such as band camp).
The school must also sight photo ID when parents sign in at the office.
Those attending overnight camps or giving personal care services to children are classed as specified volunteers and do require a WWCC.
NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY - REPEATED
National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is on this Friday 20 May 2022. Now in its 23rd year, the annual campaign encourages all primary school children, their parents and carers to walk safely and regularly to school.
The event seeks to promote road safety, health, public transport and the environment.
Australian children are becoming less active. One substantial contributor is the decline in walking and/or taking public transport to school. Children who are regularly physically active are healthier, perform better academically and are less likely to be obese or overweight. Sedentary behaviour can lead to long-term and costly risks of illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes.
Walking regularly is the best exercise because you can build it into your daily routine.
OBJECTIVES OF THE DAY
- To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children
- To promote the health benefits of walking and create regular walking habits
- To help children develop vital road crossing skills and ensure children up to the age of 10 years hold an adult's hand when crossing the road
- To reduce car dependency and traffic congestion
- To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles
- To promote the use of public transport
KISS AND DROP
Recent improvement concerning the use of the Kiss and Drop Zone has been great to see. However, there remains isolated cases of people not moving on when requested. We have additional staff at the front of the school, but the onus is on parents to take direction from the staff. We ask that adult passengers remain in their seats instead of swapping seats at the kiss and drop area, as this also takes additional time and holds up the line.
If you have high school siblings picking up children, please remind them to use the crossing rather than darting in between cars in the kiss and drop area.
Thank you for your continued support.
SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR - REPEATED
Unfortunately we are still without a School Crossing Supervisor (SCS) at the crossing on Purchase Road before and after school.
Our school may have a staff member at the crossing on most days to promote safety from approximately 8.40am to 9am and from approximately 2.50pm to 3pm.
We therefore ask parents to consider the children's safety and to remind children of the following:
- Cross the road at the designated pedestrian crossing facility
- Stop! Look! Listen! Think! when crossing the road
- Take care whenever you cross
- Don’t run across the road
Until next week, keep safe, happy and well!

Dear Parents and Carers
Have you ever considered becoming a classroom helper at school? We highly value the support of parents, grandparents and community volunteers. This Wednesday morning, Mrs Cole, our Learning and Support Teacher, will be hosting an online information session targeting:
* information on how to be a parent helper at our school, our expectations and the volunteer documentation that you are required to provide;
* the ‘Pause, Prompt and Praise’ strategy when reading/working with a child; and
* the different support programs at JPPS - EAL/D (English as an Additional Language/Dialect), Literacy support, MULTILIT, and Quick Smart Numeracy.
If these topics interest you, please reply to the advertised flyer, to receive a Zoom link.
Parents of Kindergarten students and other new parents to the school, are encouraged to attend my information session about student reports. Please see the details in the flyer below.
A whole school assembly is planned for this Thursday 19th May, at 1:35pm, under the COLA. We are looking forward to seeing students in Stage 1 present their item. Parents are most welcome to attend!
Many of our students participate in sporting, academic or cultural programs held before, during or after school. Whether on site, or at another venue, we hold high expectations of each and every JPPS student. I have published the school's extra-curricular expectations below, so that parents may be able to share and support our aspirations.
Regards
Mrs Adela King
Deputy Principal
Our School Expectations
These are the expectations that apply to extra-curricular activities.
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride Badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box outside Mrs King’s office, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher.
I will present the Purchase Pride Badges recorded below, at the morning assembly on Monday 23rd May.
Congratulations to:
Delphine L (5S), Daniel W (2E), Darcy L (2Y), Frederick L (2S), Jackson R (2E), Ahveen S (3G), Adam L (3N), Justin (3N), Aryan C (2S), Angela S (4S), Thomas C (5/6B), Shreyas K (2S), Adelyn W (2M), Ronnie (1P), Olivia C (6DW), Grace C (1B), Emily S (4S), Yolanda L (1B), Rayan N (4S), Jatin (3/4B)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left on Mrs King’s ‘award shelf’ in the school administration corridor. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
This year, all awards (including Bronze) received by 3pm on Thursday afternoons, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Depending on Covid guidelines, Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.
