30 NEW LAPTOPS FROM OUR P & C!
We extend our sincere gratitude to our awesome P & C Association for their generous donation of a class set of laptops. Their unwavering support and commitment to building on the school's resources and enhancing our students' learning experiences are truly commendable. With this invaluable contribution, our students will have increased access to technology, providing further opportunities for exploration, creativity and academic growth.
The generosity of the P & C Association leaves a lasting impact on our school. We are deeply thankful for their partnership and dedication to enriching the educational journey of every student at our school.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
LESSON STUDY
We're thrilled to introduce you to an exciting initiative taking place in our kindergarten classrooms: Lesson Study in Mathematics. This collaborative process involves teachers working together to plan, teach, observe, and refine a single lesson over a series of sessions. Teachers analyse the lesson effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Through this reflective dialogue, adjustments are made to enhance the lesson for the next classroom and subsequently for the following one. This iterative cycle ensures that each lesson evolves to better meet the needs of our students, fostering a dynamic and responsive learning environment.
By focusing on a specific mathematical concept, teachers explore various teaching strategies and student responses, ensuring a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Through this approach, teachers not only enhance their instructional practices but also tailor lessons to better suit the diverse needs of the students.
Ultimately, Lesson Study fosters a supportive environment where teachers continuously grow and adapt, resulting in more effective and engaging math instruction for our students. We're excited about the positive impact this process will have on your child's learning journey.

Term 1 Week 8
Monday 18th March 2024
Happy Harmony Week!
Almost half of all Australians were either born overseas or have a parent who was. Like many people at John Purchase PS, I am one of those matching that statistic! I am proud to be part of this thriving multicultural community.
Parent Teacher Interviews We aspire to foster positive partnerships between home and school. Our teachers value the opportunity to meet with parents and carers to discuss student progress. Parent teacher interviews will commence at school, from Monday 8th April. All interviews will be held in either the school hall or annexe. We use an online platform for parents and carers to select times from the options available, set by class teachers. The site opens for bookings at 9am next Tuesday 26th March and closes at 9am on Friday 5th April. Please only book one 15 minute timeslot per child. Please visit the website below, next week, and use the event code to make your booking.

Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Pride awards recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office foyer. Each set of ten awards needs to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw, for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term. Students are notified directly, if successful.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter, during term time. This badge may be worn on the school uniform. Students are encouraged to hand in their awards regularly and not 'stockpile' them.
Congratulations:
Anika (5B), Angela S x4 (5B), Adriana B (1B), Ellie L (3N), Zoey L (3/4B), Noah S (1KR), Victor H (1B), Ronnie (3S), Garron (4MM), Victoria X (3B), Sophia (4T)
Class Awards System
In addition to Purchase Prides, JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued. Students are encouraged to hand in their awards, rather than 'stockpiling' them until Term 4, so they don't miss out on special celebrations, such as the Principal's Morning Tea.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
All awards (including Bronze) now received by 9am on Thursday mornings, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.
Bronze Award
These awards will be presented to recipients at the Principal's Morning Tea, towards the end of Term 1. This event will be held in the hall at 10:30am, on Tuesday 2nd April. Parents of recipients, are invited to attend.
Congratulations:

Congratulations JPPS Primary Choir!
Last Thursday 27 excited students travelled to Homebush for an all day rehearsal and evening performance of the 2024 Pulse Alive Concert. Pulse Alive provides performance opportunities for students of all abilities from Kindergarten to Year 12. Our students performed with the Combined Choir having learnt the words and music to 25 parts to accompany the Principal Choir. The students had a very long, hot day arriving at school at 7am with the concert finishing at 9.30pm. They all performed beautifully and we are very proud of their manners and patience as we waited for our turn to practise and perform.
Thank you parents for your continued support of the choir and for battling the heavy traffic to find a parking spot to pick your students up for dinner and return them refreshed and ready for the concert. We hope you enjoyed the performance.

Ethics classes can only be offered as an alternative if we have volunteer teachers. Volunteers can come from our parents, grandparents, friends and local community, from every walk of life. Primary Ethics offers full, free training, lesson scripts and teaching support.
Ethics encourages children to listen closely and to develop their opinions through ethical reasoning. Ethics helps kids develop confidence and empathy. As an ethics teacher, you’ll get a lot out of it too!
