We look forward to another full week of learning and extra-curricular activities.
This week, the Swim and Water Safety program begins for Year 2 students. This is a nine-day program, that will run over the next fortnight. We hope that students attending will develop their skills in swimming and broaden their understanding of how to be safe in the water; an important life skill for all.
Our staff would like to warmly invite any parents, scripture teachers and other community members, who have volunteered at our school this year, to our ‘Helpers’ Morning Tea, tomorrow, Tuesday 28 November, at 10:30am, in the annexe.

How to access my child's Semester 2 Report
Semester 2 student reports will be available via the Impromation Parent Portal, next Wednesday, 6th December. New parents are reminded to ensure that the registration process has been completed. Please refer to the access instructions below.
Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:
Responsibility: Respect the environment by using paper and soap wisely including leaving the toilets clean and tidy
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Please note: The last day for handing in Purchase Prides for 2023, will be THIS THURSDAY, 30TH NOVEMBER.
Congratulations to:
Caleb W (KH), Jancy Z (KN), Aishleen R (KN), Kingston S (KN), Hayley W (1KR), Evie L (1KR), Jessica C (1KR), Nicole S (1M), Alex K (2E), Hayden T (2E), Phillipa W (2D), Gemma L (2R), Lucas Z (3/4B), Rieley C (3/4B), Liam F (3/4B), Daniel S (3G), Francis Y (3N), Rihaan S (3S) Tanishk (3S), Sienna T (4M), Aaron G (4M), Kayshav (4R), Shabarish D (5N), Pravir K (6G)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
All awards (including Bronze) now received by 9am on Thursday morning, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.
Bronze Award
These awards will be presented to recipients at the Principal's Morning Tea, at the end of Term 4. This event will be held in the hall at noon, on Tuesday 5th December. Parents of recipients, are invited to attend. Please note the later time, due to Year 2's swimming lessons.

Sport House Captains Nominations for 2024
The process for selecting the 2024 Senior and Junior Sporting House Captains commenced last week, with application forms distributed to interested students in Year 5 and Year 3 on Wednesday 22 November. Students will be given the opportunity to nominate themselves, if they wish to represent their house in a leadership position.
Students are to complete the half page submission form and return it to Mrs Townsend by 3pm on Wednesday 29th November. The nominees will deliver a short (one-minute maximum) speech, to their house groups after lunch on Thursday 7th December. Then, Years 2-6 students, in their respective house groups, will vote for the nominee of their choice. If a student from Years 3 or 5 is absent from school and would like to nominate themselves, parents must contact Mrs Townsend throughout the week, or call the school on 9875 3100 to have an application form emailed home. It is anticipated that nominees be present to deliver their own speeches.

Stage 3 Bushfire Q & A Session
Last Thursday afternoon, Stage 3 students prepared some informative questions on bushfires for Mr McDonald, who is the Deputy Captain, of Cherrybrook Rural Fire Brigade.
The session was a pivotal component of our geography curriculum, providing valuable insights into bushfires and their impact.
Our students eagerly participated in discussions, asking thought-provoking questions and engaging with Mr McDonald, to gain a deeper understanding of the geographical aspects of bushfires. His expertise and firsthand experiences brought the curriculum to life, fostering a sense of awareness and preparedness among our students.
The session encompassed crucial topics from our geography unit, including the causes and effects of bushfires, fire behaviour, safety protocols, and the role of geography in managing and mitigating these natural occurrences.
We witnessed our students' enthusiasm as they connected classroom knowledge with real-world scenarios, gaining invaluable insights that extend far beyond the classroom.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr McDonald for his dedication and willingness to share his expertise. His contributions have enriched our students' educational experiences and equipped them with crucial knowledge about bushfires.

3S Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Challenge
3S worked very hard making bridges as part of their lessons on rigid shapes. They learnt the value of teamwork and listening to everyone's ideas, as well as how to use everyday recycled materials, to build a rigid bridge, for either people or humans. They designed some very creative bridges!

Cherrybrook Technology High School Orientation Day Year 7 2024
Tuesday November 28 2023 from 9-11am at CTHS
This event allows parents and future Year 7 students the opportunity to become familiar with the school staff, curriculum and school procedures. Only students who have been accepted for enrolment at CTHS in Year 7 2024 and their parents are invited to this event. Parents will receive an enrolment package in the first few weeks of November which provides details of the Orientation Day.

From the Office
Lost Property (repeated)
Please don't forget to check for any of your child's lost uniform items before the end of the school year.
Please also remember to label your child's clothing clearly so our staff can return these items to the students directly.
School Travel Applications 2024 (repeated)
2024 school travel applications are now open.
Students who need a School Opal card or travel pass for 2024 can apply here. A new application will need to be submitted if they are applying for the first time, or if they are requesting additional travel entitlement because of new shared parental arrangement (e.g. joint custody).
Students who change address, school, or have received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details before the end of Term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, and entitlements remain valid for the start of the 2024 school year. School Opal card holders will have the changes applied to their existing card.
If a student’s distance eligibility has changed based on their grade (i.e. grade two to grade three), the system will automatically update their entitlement if they meet the new criteria. If they do not meet the new eligibility criteria, we will send them an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition that is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card (including a Term Bus Pass) for the first time will receive their Student Opal card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2024.

FROM THE CANTEEN
Forgotten lunches: Just a reminder to parents to please ensure that you provide lunch for your children - either through a lunch order or lunch from home. On Friday, we had 10 students who came down with no lunch. All our lunches are made to order and we do not have spare lunches to feed 10 students. Some of the students were quite upset when they had no lunch order and we couldn't offer what they were expecting, if their lunch had been pre-ordered. We usually offer sandwiches and sometimes extra nuggets or sushi but this is no guarantee. So, to ensure your child is not upset, please ensure you pack them lunch or do a lunch order. Also notes will be sent home if we provide your child lunch, so we ask that this amount be paid, as soon as possible.
Lunch Choices: With the end of the year fast approaching, just a reminder that we will be running out of some lunch items - this will show up on Flexischools to make it easier for you to chose another option. Sushi will be available right up until the canteen's last day - Wednesday 13 December.
Mini Fete Day - Friday 8 December: Just a reminder to parents that we will be closed for recess and lunch on Mini Fete Day.
Last day for Canteen 2023 - Wednesday 13 December: Our last day for lunches will be Wednesday 13 December as we will be closed for cleaning Thursday and Friday.
Volunteers for 2024: We are still looking for more volunteers for next year. We had an amazing response from our incoming kindy class of 2024, but we still have some days where we need more help so if you could spare one day a month, please contact Snoewy or Anna on jpps.canteen@gmail.com.
P&C SCHOOL DISCO (repeated)
The P&C has organised a school disco for Thursday 7th December. The goal for the event is for it to be a fun end of year celebration for students as well as fundraising to purchase updated iPads for student use in the classrooms.
Tickets will be $10 and include a glow stick bracelet. The famous and popular 'Bop Til you Drop' will be providing the entertainment. Payment options will be available soon.
The P&C will need parent volunteers on the night to supervise the students, as school staff will not be in attendance. An online volunteer signup sheet will be available shortly.
Years | Start | Finish |

3-6 | 6:45pm | 7:45pm |

Important Notice: Uniform Price Adjustment
From Term 4, we'll be adjusting prices on some uniform items. The new price will be on the school website and uniform shop on the first day of Term 4 (9 October 2023).
This adjustment is necessary due to rising supplier costs over the past five years. The P&C runs the store as a service to the school community and proceeds of the store are returned to the school as P&C donations. We really appreciate your understanding for both the price increase and the benefit to the school of having the uniform shop service.
Thank you for your continued support.
The pricing of some uniforms has been adjusted and please refer to the updated price list, effective from Term 4.
The special opening arrangements for 2024 kindy orientation days are:
