Term 4 Week 7
Monday 20th November 2023
Our students are encouraged to seek leadership opportunities, in a variety of ways. Recently, our Stage 3 students supported new Kindergarten students, during their transition program. Last week, ten Year 5 candidates presented their speeches to secure one of four positions, as a JPPS student leader in 2024, before a large crowd. Every candidate can certainly be proud of their efforts. This week, sporting house captain nominations commence and the Student Representative Council meets with Mrs Barr.
Student voice is valued at JPPS!
Parents and carers are reminded that our office staff cannot be responsible for child care, after school. The administrative staff are scheduled to leave at 3:15pm. Please be mindful of what suitable, alternative arrangements, can be organised for your child/children, in the event that you are delayed at 2:50pm - our daily pickup time. Please have a backup plan in place!
The 2023 Learn to Swim Program, is being offered to JPPS students in Year 2 and commences next Monday, 27th November. Thank you to Mrs Robbins, for coordinating this valuable opportunity.
Next Tuesday, 28th November, all SRE and SEE classes will hold their last lessons for 2023. We are extremely grateful to the volunteer teachers, who give up their time, so willingly, to teach these programs.
A special morning tea for all of our volunteers (parents and community members), will be held in the annexe, next Tuesday morning, 28th November, commencing at 10:30am. JPPS staff cordially invite our helpers!
Have a positive week!

Term 4 Week 7
Monday 20th November
It was terrific to hear the leadership speeches presented last week. Congratulations to all of you for an outstanding job!
HPG assessments for applicants in Years 3, 4 and 5, as well as some remaining Year 2 students, continue this week. All assessments are being held during school hours and are timetabled in and around class schedules and school programs.
At the heart of every successful school, there are strong partnerships between parents, carers and the broader community. At John Purchase, we are fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association. Together they harness diversity, promote inclusion and generate ideas that prioritise the well-being and growth of every student. Your active involvement in the P&C now and moving forward into 2024, is warmly welcomed. Please refer to the P&C section of this newsletter on how you can get involved.
Parents are cordially invited to attend the final K-6 Assembly for 2023 on Thursday, 30th November. Final awards for 2023 will be presented. The assembly will commence at 1:35pm under the COLA. Please be aware that this Thursday, 23rd November, is the final day for receiving Class Awards from students in Kindergarten to Year 5, prior to the final assembly for awards. Year 6 students may hand in class awards until Week 10.

How to access my child's Semester 2 Report (repeated)

Congratulations Silver Award Recipients
Congratulations Gold Award Recipients
Congratulations Bronze Medallion Award Recipients
Our School Expectations
Congratulations to our students who have demonstrated our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire.
This week's expectation is:
Respect: Speak to others in a polite and positive way
Purchase Pride Badges
Purchase Prides recognise positive student behaviour on the playground and in the classroom. When students receive ten Purchase Pride award cards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name and current class.
Award recipients will be presented with a coloured Purchase Pride badge, the week after their name is published in this newsletter.
Purchase Pride cards also have a 'tear-off' strip. This strip may be removed by the recipient and placed in the appropriate stage box in the award shelf, to go in the lucky dip draw for a canteen voucher. Canteen vouchers are drawn by our SRC representatives, at the end of each term.
The Purchase Pride badges recorded below, will be presented at the next Monday morning assembly. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Congratulations to:
Asher H (KS), Serena W (KS), Charlotte C (KS), Stella W (KH), Claire H x 2 (1B), Lia K (2E), Luca C (3/4B), Rayaan S (3/4B), Nicholas Z (3/4B), Harrison L (3/4B), Myilen S (3S), William K (4M), Jacob M (4R), Michael W x 4 (6FG)
Class Awards System
JPPS has an incremental class awards system. When a student has received ten class awards, these should be left in the boxes on the ‘award shelf’ inside the school office. The shelf has been moved to just inside the office foyer, for greater convenience. The ten class awards need to be bundled together and clearly labelled with the student’s name, current class and award level reached. A clear, snap lock bag is ideal for this purpose! Students need to be responsible for their own awards, as replacements are not issued.
10 Class Awards = Bronze 20 = Silver 30 = Gold 40 = Bronze Medallion
50 = Silver Medallion 60 = Gold Medallion 75 = Platinum Medallion and Principal for the Day!
All awards (including Bronze) now received by 9am on Thursday morning, are ‘stamped’ and published in the next school newsletter, which is usually on the following Monday, in term time. At this time, I indicate when these awards will be presented. Silver Awards, Gold Awards and all Medallions, are presented at whole school assemblies. Please note that Bronze Awards are only presented at the end of each term, at the Principal's Morning Tea.
Bronze Award
These awards will be presented to recipients at the Principal's Morning Tea, at the end of Term 4. This event will be held in the hall at noon, on Tuesday 5th December. Parents of recipients, are invited to attend. Please note the later time, due to Year 2's swimming lessons.

Sport House Captains Nominations for 2024
The process for selecting the 2024 Senior and Junior Sporting House Captains will commence this week, with application forms being distributed to interested students in Year 5 and Year 3 on Wednesday 22 November. Students will be given the opportunity to nominate themselves, if they wish to represent their house in a leadership position.
Students are to complete the half page submission form and return it to Mrs Townsend by 3pm on Wednesday 29th November. The nominees will deliver a short (one-minute maximum) speech, to their house groups after lunch on Thursday 7th December. Then, Years 2-6 students, in their respective house groups, will vote for the nominee of their choice. Cherrybrook Technology High School Orientation Day Year 7 2024
Tuesday November 28 2023 from 9-11am at CTHS
This event allows parents and future Year 7 students the opportunity to become familiar with the school staff, curriculum and school procedures. Only students who have been accepted for enrolment at CTHS in Year 7 2024 and their parents are invited to this event. Parents will receive an enrolment package in the first few weeks of November which provides details of the Orientation Day.

LOST PROPERTY
Please don't forget to check for any of your child's lost uniform items before the end of the school year.
Please also remember to label your child's clothing clearly so our staff can return these items to the students directly.
School Travel Applications 2024
2024 school travel applications are now open.
Students who need a School Opal card or travel pass for 2024 can apply here. A new application will need to be submitted if they are applying for the first time, or if they are requesting additional travel entitlement because of new shared parental arrangement (e.g. joint custody).
Students who change address, school, or have received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details before the end of Term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, and entitlements remain valid for the start of the 2024 school year. School Opal card holders will have the changes applied to their existing card.
If a student’s distance eligibility has changed based on their grade (i.e. grade two to grade three), the system will automatically update their entitlement if they meet the new criteria. If they do not meet the new eligibility criteria, we will send them an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition that is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card (including a Term Bus Pass) for the first time will receive their Student Opal card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2024.
